About Us
At Sequoia Integrative Psychiatry we know psychiatric medications can be an extremely useful, and at times, an essential tool. We also believe that because many factors impact our mental health, quality support includes holistic evaluation and treatment considerations.
We both have a strong interest in evidence-based functional medicine and alternative treatments, and will often include these in our recommendations. We partner with integrative specialists, including Naturopathic Doctors, practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and dieticians for consultation and referrals.
We strive to remain humble and acknowledge the legacy of medical racism, sexism, and ableism, particularly in psychiatry. Our shared approach to practice is grounded in our own ongoing work toward anti-racism and collective liberation. When working with patients, we bring expert knowledge of psychiatric mental health care, but rely on you to be the expert of your complex intersections of identity and lived experience. We approach our work as invited guests, offering guidance and support to your journey.
We bring over four years of experience in evaluating and diagnosing psychiatric conditions, prescribing psychiatric medications to improve symptoms and working to develop non-pharmacological interventions and goals that align with patients’ personal philosophies, time, and resources.
Prior to our Board Certification as Psychiatric ARNP’s, both Erin and Malia gained valuable experience working as registered nurses in community mental health, as well as having careers previously in the care for adults with neurodivergence, including autism spectrum, developmental and intellectual disabilities, and more.
